When you have looked around for liquid containers and atomizers/coils, you have certainly encountered “Ohm rating.”
Many of our liquid containers and atomizers are available to purchase in different Ohm ratings. Of course you should know in advance what Ohm is; it can, however, be confusing, you might just want to try our new liquid containers or want to swap the atomizer/coil. I want to try in this guide to clearly explain what “Ohm rating” actually is and what it means for your e-cigarette.
Specifically, “Ohm rating” is the magnitude of the electrical resistance, or a designation for how freely electricity is able to flow through something. Ohm can also be described with this symbol: Ω
When we use “Ohm” in e-cigarettes and accessories, it concerns what type of heat the atomizer/coil should generate to vaporize our E-juice.
There are two factors that determine how hot the coil becomes: the voltage from the batteries and the Ohm rating of what sits above the battery. A higher voltage from the battery and a lower Ohm rating from the atomizer/coil will create more heat in the atomizer/coil to vaporize the E-juice. The heat produced by the atomizer/coil will enhance the flavor of the e-juice, increase the amount of vapor and improve your overall experience with E-cigarettes.
By using the Ohm scale we can fine-tune which products best fit with the batteries we sell – thus we achieve the best amount of vapor and the best flavor experience.
Let us take an example with two identical liquid containers from the same manufacturer; the only difference is that their atomizers/coils are in different Ohm ratings.
1) Low Ohm rating: 1-1.8 Ohm
2) Standard Ohm rating: 2.2-2.8 Ohm
As you can see, there are clear pros and cons.
You are likely thinking to yourself, “Which Ohm rating and coil should I order?”
I can say with certainty that there is no concrete answer to that question. It may be about what you prefer yourself; it also depends a lot on your equipment and E-juice. Normally, a low Ohm rating will give you the best flavor experience and produce the most vapor. However, there are limits to how high voltage and how low Ohm rating you can use together. In the table below you can see which ratings pair best. For a low Ohm rating with too high voltage will make your E-cigarette far too hot, while a too high Ohm rating with too low voltage will result in the vapor production being minimal. We recommend staying within the green zone.
