It can be difficult to know how much nicotine you ingest in a day. Usually you don't measure it.
There are a lot of vapers out there who use their E-cigarettes almost all the time. Despite this, many believe they ingest much less nicotine than someone who smokes cigarettes. Therefore it's quite relevant to look at E-juice and the amount of nicotine in it. This article is about nicotine content. How much do you need? How much nicotine is in a cigarette? And so on.
Nicotine content of a cigarette and an E-juice
Here we look at how much nicotine there is in your E-juice. An example: You have a bottle of E-juice that contains 18 mg nicotine per milliliter. It is very important to think that it's per milliliter and not per bottle. Most ingredients in a food are measured per 100 ml or 100 grams but this does not apply to E-juice. We are talking here instead of per 1 milliliter.
On a regular pack of cigarettes there is usually something like "1 milligram nicotine". That means there is 1 mg nicotine in each cigarette.
Milliliters of E-juice
We now use a fictional E-smoker who vapes 1 ml of E-juice per day. This is quite a common consumption, and many of course lie above or below it. If you use 1 ml of E-juice with 18 mg nicotine per milliliter you therefore consume 18 mg nicotine (1 ml x 18 mg = 18 mg). This corresponds to 18 cigarettes per day if we assume the same cigarettes as before.
Imagine that our person instead uses twice as much E-juice, i.e., 2 ml, for example on a festive day or if he or she is a heavy user, the person actually consumes 36 mg nicotine – 36 (!) cigarettes.
It is good to calculate the consumption to see whether it corresponds to more or fewer cigarettes than you actually smoked before. In this way you can see whether your nicotine consumption has increased or decreased after switching to the E-cigarette. Try calculating how much you use.
Keep track of the nicotine amount
If you don't think about, or don't care about the amount of nicotine, it can quickly happen that you actually increase the amount of nicotine you ingest after switching to E-cigarettes. It is true that not all nicotine is absorbed by the body. Some is also lost, but it's very hard to calculate.
The most important is to keep track of how much nicotine you ingest with the E-cigarette in comparison with regular cigarettes.
If you feel that your nicotine consumption is too high you can try to reduce consumption. You can, for example, order E-juice with less nicotine or entirely without nicotine. Of course you can also just use your E-cigarette less without actually taking an E-juice with less nicotine. With both strategies you could reduce your consumption a little.
In addition, you can also put obstacles in your own way. For example you can stop using your E-cigarette at work or you can stop carrying your E-cigarette in your pocket wherever you go.
But even if you cannot or want to vape less or if you use the same amount of nicotine as before you lose nothing. You avoid, in any case, 4000 chemical substances from every cigarette you do not smoke. In addition you avoid the smell and your sense of smell improves.
If you have ingested too much nicotine
If you have too much nicotine in your body it is called nicotine poisoning. There are some concrete symptoms that indicate it, and you should listen to them. How nicotine poisoning shows itself in the end is fairly individual, however you should react to these typical signals:
- Dizziness
- Headache
- Increased blood pressure
- Stomach ache
- Nausea and vomiting
- Seizures
These symptoms can of course also have other causes, so don't panic when you occasionally get a headache or stomach ache after using your E-cigarette. You should listen to your body and if you suspect nicotine poisoning you must seek medical help as soon as possible.
